Le Marche wines

The wines of Le Marche are relatively unknown outside of the region with only the popular white Verdicchio being normally available in the UK, Europe and US. But in recent years more of the lesser known wines have become available in the areas of the world and indeed also in Australia, Japan, China and Russia. A few enterprising wine producers are now actively targeting these markets and wines such as the red Rosso Piceno and the white Passerina are now starting to become available outside of Italy.

The "schools" will actually be "pop up" workshops with olive oil tasting classes, together with talks and workshops covering such diverse subjects as the history of olive oil production, the many Italian olive varieties, olive cultivation and the latest legislation covering the production and sale of olive oil in Europe.

Livinginlemarche workig together with Olivaverde had been involved in this exciting project since first being approached by Laura Billings of Social Spaces last August.

Biodynamics in Le Marche

Biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic farming and was one of the first of the modern ecological farming systems. It has much in common with organic methods of farming and emphasises the use of manures and composts, rejecting the use of artifical fertilisers. The founder of the Biodynamic movement was Rudolf Steiner and the members advocate taking a holistic and sustainable approach to agriculture which in studies have seen increased biodiversity, greater earthworm populations and great energy efficiency in production.

Le Marche in London

In our last Blog post we talked about the possibility of a large Le Marche food and wine event in London next year, the planning for this is moving forward at a pace and we now think it very likely to be in May or June of 2013. This allows several other large wine events in London and Italy to take place before our dedicated Le Marche event. The RAW wine fair at Brick Lane in East London and Vinitaly are likely to be in early 2013 and we will be attending both of these prestigious events so our Marche event will be held later.
